The best it has ever been played?

Bill Simmons thinks the Patriots are in another stratosphere because they are blowing out team after team. "You haven't seen football played this well in a long time," he claims. He goes on to say, "As you might have heard by now, the Patriots are 6-0, they've outscored opponents by a 230-92 margin." Tom Brady threw 22 touchdowns during that span.

Wow Bill, that's unbelievable!

Unless you are a Colts fan, in which case such a run of excellence is a recent memory. Over six games in 2004 the Colts outscored their opponents by a devastating margin of 225-77. Peyton Manning threw 21 touchdowns in that stretch. The Colts were in the middle of an eight game winning streak. Indianapolis scored forty point or more in four consecutive games. Manning's play made it easy to forget about the defending champions who were in the middle of their own winning streak.

See what I'm getting at?

Just skip to the baseball. I can't stand his writing about the Pats at all anymore.

And will Manning break his own record for "Most meaningless touchdown passes after a game has been decided over a five-game stretch?"

oh, bill.

Great work guys. Bill Simmons makes it hard for Colts fans to visit ESPN.com anymore.

Just thought I would leave some stats my BIL sent to me a few minutes ago. Thought y'all might like these:

I don't know if you were all watching Sunday night football. If you were watching, you may have heard Chris Collinsworth comment about the Patriots being one of the best teams ever (or something like that). Anyway, maybe CC ought to do some statistical research before making that statement. I don't really have this much spare time in my day, but I felt this was important. Here is a little stat comparrison between the Colts and the (Girly) Patriots.

The Pats have the number one offense by stats with about 430 ypg. The Pats are number one in passing with 290 ypg. The Pats are number one in ppg with an avg. of 38. Sounds pretty good, but let's talk about the competition. So far the Pats opponents have an avg. total team defense ranking of 24, a win % of .412, and give up 252 ypg passing. All of this means the Pats have faced some of the worst pass defense and total team defense in the NFL.

The Colts have the number three offense by stats. The Colts avg. 403 ypg, 260 pass/g, 142 rush/g, and 33 ppg. However, unlike the (Girly) Patriots, the Colts opponents have an avg. total team defense ranking of 15, a win % of .492, and give up only 202 pass ypg. All of this means the Colts have faced the better team defense and some of the best pass defense in the NFL.

On defense, the Pats have a slight stat advantage and they are pretty good against the run. The Pats only give up 78 rush ypg but their opponents have only avg. 106 rush ypg (we avg. 142 rush ypg). Statistically the Pats show a little better "D" (they are #2 we are #5), but their opponents have an avg. win % of .412; our opponents have an avg. win % of .492.

I'm not making any predicitions, but if we look good against the (Cheap Shot) Jags, I'd say we match up pretty well.

I remember that quote, Jacob. Very nice. Let's all take a moment to enjoy Bill's misery and hope the Sawx go down again tonight.

Bill's not interested in stats or any facts for that matter. The Pats are the greatest because he loves them. Period.

Brady is the greatest because he loves him. Bad passes, inconsistency, choking in the clutch, overall lack of accuracy -- so what?! Don't confuse him with facts. Love is blind.
