Summing up the Jags

Rarely has a writer ever done quite so nice a job of unintentionally summing up the hilarity that is the Jacksonville Jaguars as Foxsports.com John Czarnecki. The premise of his piece is that the Jags are vying to attain supremacy over the Colts in the South. In it he states:

To compete with and possibly derail the Colts, the Jaguars did three things in the offseason. They signed former Raiders receiver Jerry Porter to compensate for the loss of steady receiver Ernest Wilford, who signed with the Dolphins. They traded for Minnesota's first-round bust, receiver Troy Williamson, to add to their inconsistent receiving corps. Finally, already armed with a group of pass rushers, the Jaguars traded up 22 spots in the first round of the draft to select Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey in order to put even more pressure on Manning

Soooo, they got Porter who immediately has surgery and misses all of camp. Then they trade a king's ransom to get Derrick Harvey who STILL HASN'T SIGNED HIS CONTRACT. The Jags thought enough of him to trade way up for him, but not enough to pay him a slotted deal.

So the Jholes entire strategy for beating the Colts this year comes down to:
Troy Williamson

Sigh, you gotta love those comic cats.

...and we care because...?

Seriously, it's laughable that the Jags think they can beat us. They've had one good win, where they were playing against a historically bad run defense. If they played the rest of the division as hard as they play us, they might win more games.

And I'm not sure how much of Troy Williamson's problems have to do with him, or Tarvaris Jackson.

That was horrible. I'm not sure what is more disturbing: that an NFL player could have that many wide open drops or the fact that someone took the time to document them so thoroughly.

Williamson's catch rate for his 3 seasons 47%, 49%, 46%. Well at least he's consistent.

That wasn't so many catches (5? 6?), but if I had to diagnose, I'd say he has vision issues. Either plain bad eyesight that nobody has diagnosed (he seems to put his hands where the ball ain't), or more likely, he has difficulty picking up the ball in flight at the last second. Even the ones where it banged off his body and you'd think "poor technique" because he let it get to his body, but maybe he misjudged it in the air and his hands came up late or were in the wrong place.

Either way, this is very encouraging for the Colts and the 2nd tier AFC teams looking for a wildcard berth over the Jags. Hey, at least he's signed and he's fast--maybe they can use HIM to rush Manning!

Another great aspect of the Czarnecki article is that Del Rio said Garrard "played right with Brady" in the playoff game, but Garrard himself said they settled for 3 instead of TDs too often. Well, before Randy Moss got there, that WAS Brady (I'm thinking their playoff wins over the Colts, in which Brady worshippers ignore the fact that he played so unGodlike). So they're both right. The reason Vinatieri had such a glowing rep was the very fact that Brady needed the 3 so often, instead of getting the 7. I wonder what Brady got Moss for his birthday... whatever it was, it better be BIG.
