In hiding

I feel like I've been AWOL all week. There just hasn't been much to talk about. It's hilarious how despite mentions here and there about "the Colts flying under the radar", there really isn't much talk about them. Why? They are boring. The media hates foregone conclusions and now that Indy looks like all but a moral lock to sew up the two seed, there just isn't anything to say. It's all about wait and see what happens on that fateful day in January.

So with no links, I just didn't have the gas in the tank to make up crap to post about. Plus, 18 Plays was insanely long, and took forever to record and edit. Thanks for the brave souls who endured all 58 minutes. I swear we won't do that to you again.

Here's what I'm seeing around the net:

Bill Simmons is finally starting to get appropriately nervous. (I know it's just a reverse jinx, but still, he ought to be afraid).

Lenny P has several Colts notes. Nothing that we haven't really discussed here, but he does explain why the Colts might not take a flyer on Sam Adams.

Vic bans all Colts fans. I'd think he'd want more readers, since there aren't that many Jags fans. They still haven't quite sold out, but they did get the blackout lifted. Uh, Jacksonville, your team is 8-4 and really good. I heard the reason they couldn't move more tickets is that people were expecting to be too hung over from their Tebow parties to go to the game on Sunday.

The Star has a great piece on the practice squad guys. They risk their future health for a shot at the big time.

SI revists all the Heisman races of the last 20 years. The verdict: both Marshal Faulk and Peyton Manning should have won. There is little question about that. It's too bad they can't retroactively give a trophy to Anthony Thompson as well. Few running backs have ever had a season or a career like he did.
Eyes in the Backfield should be up late tonight.

In Simmons' article, I wrote the quote for the Steelers/Pats game, and it's totally dead on.

The Pats are ripe for a second round upset.

lol. Nice job man. I wrote him a similar thought after the Dallas game, but he wasn't ready to hear it yet. This is going to be fun...

Thank you much. I usually write him a comment every week, but this is the first one he's published, and I'm happy about it. The parallels between this Patriots team and the 04/05 Colts are creepy. Great, prolific offenses, iffy defenses, and no running game. The Ravens and Eagles bottled the Pats up, and if they had had better QBs, those games would have been losses for the Pats.

The Pats could draw the Chargers, Jags, or Steelers in the second round. Looking at the Ravens and Eagles games, I wouldn't want to be them.

If the Pats fall and the Colts win, the RCA Dome goes out on an awesome note: an AFC Championship game, and a chance for the Colts to go to the Super Bowl. Again.

Wait, did Vic just call us thin-skinned whiners? Seriously?

I know, right? How hilarious is that guy?

He should just rename his column, "The Kettle is Black"

Wow, Vic is amazing. Calling Colts fans whiners? The unintentional comedy is absolutely through the roof. Banning Colts fans from "Ask Vic" is like toddlers banning their parents from the kids' table at Thanksgiving. You just kinda chuckle at them, think, "aww, that's cute," and move on.

And I can't believe Simmons had the gall to write "I hate everything that's happening with this season." You mean, that your team is undefeated through 12 games, or that your QB might break about six different passing records? Which part of that is it that you hate? He's either absolutely insane, or just a massive liar. We all know, of course, that it's the latter. He probably had the same look on his face when he wrote that sentence that Nick Saban had when he said he was not leaving the Dolphins. I'm pretty sure a reverse jinx attempt that's that patently obvious won't work.

Nobody wants to be the '01 Rams or the '04 Colts.

We know how that turned out.......

Simmons is hating the way this season is going because he recognizes that for all the talent the Patriots have, history has shown that they're well on their way to a blowout in the second round, and the Colts are on their way to the Super Bowl.

Ask any player, former or current. Their goal is the Super Bowl. End of story. Going undefeated is nice, but it doesn't mean anything unless you go all the way. Right now, the Pats look completely gassed. Teams like the Colts are hitting their stride and getting healthy for a playoff run. The Pats are going to have two incredibly tough games on their way to the Super Bowl, assuming they make it that far.
