Eye am ready for this game

Like clockwork, Eyes in the Backfield is all ready to go today. Here's a preview:

After winning a game that we thought would be impossible, the Colts look to get on a serious roll. As luck would have it, the Houston Texans roll into Indy this week. And while games in Texas Stadium have always been tight, games in Indy never are. We are all looking for a dominant performance on both sides of the ball this week, but how will it play out remains to be seen. This week be on the lookout for:

1. Watch the deep ball. The Colts have been herky-jerky all year on deep pass, and it's imperative to get the deep game working in order for the offense to truly click. With Wayne and Gonzo out of practice for much of the week, 18 and 88 have been working a little extra with one another. Don't be surprised to see Marvin grab a least one pass over 30 yards.

2. Watch the corners. Even Colts #1 corner Marlin Jackson had trouble containing Andre Johnson in the first game. Johnson is a serious beast, and #3 and #5 corners Jennings and Ratliff will have more than their hands full. Watch for safety help at all times on Johnson, who may have to take some big hits after catches. If the Colts can limit Johnson, the Texans don't have a chance.

My favorite part is the picture this week. For more, just click.

Dude, it's okay. You don't have to come up with a different pun with the word EYE every week.

Sorry, but someone had to intervene.

Ha. I almost titled this, "Eye am running out of puns".

I just give the people what they want. And what they want is clever word play.

Right?

No?

Damn.

I think it's safe to call Ratliff the #4 CB. He was ahead of Hughes at the start of the season and is ahead of him again (though Dungy has said Hughes wasn't 100% the last two weeks even though he was practicing)

He's ahead of Hughes now, but he was cut and Hughes wasn't. I'd say that makes him #5 in the big picture.

oh yeah and suck it Purdue fans. If only Iowa had Norte Dame on the schedule or for their bowl too so they could get the domination of all 3 Indiana FBS Colleges, giving me college football bragging rights of just about every Colts fan.

drunken screeds against Purdue as always welcome here

Ratliff is 27 and was written off as a bust by the team that drafted him. Hughes is 23. I think Hughes would be more likely to be picked up if he was cut and that's why he was kept over Ratliff. Hughes is bigger in the Colts long term plans, but isn't better than Ratliff right now.

Ratliff showed last week he can do some things very well (primarily tackle). He'll be on the roster the rest of the year for sure, and probably went a long way to making sure he'll work steadily through next year as well (with someone if not us)

My point was merely that it isn't inaccurate to refer to him as the number 5 CB.

Yeah it's not a big difference between calling him the #4 or #5.

I want the Colts to draft Mitch King so bad. He's a monster as a undersized DT. He could be a younger Raheem Brock, or be Josh Thomas with pass rushing ability. Shonn Greene is a beast too, but his hands suck so he's not an option for the Colts.
