Do you believe in miracles?

Colts 31 - Texans 27

Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.
Links:
Don Banks says the Colts could be 0-4. Yeah, there's no question. They could also be 3-1. They didn't get a single break from the start of the Jacksonville game right up until Bracket scooped and ran like a roly poly bat out of hell this week. You are what you are. Not what you could be.

I'm so happy I don't have to quit you.

I still don't believe. A miracle comeback that depends on Sage Rosenfels and the Texans falling apart is fun, but not impressive in the big picture.

On the other hand, what an amazing catch by Wayne. Wow.

Yeah, I think we are all worried.

This win is cosmetic and hides some real problems.

But it came down to the defense forcing 2 turnovers through 3.75 games, and then forcing 3 in the final 5 minutes.

Today, let's just be happy.

I still can't believe Brighthouse didn't carry that game.

I hate them.

I hate them now.

I hate them forever.

No worries, my friend; all shall be forgiven.

Perhaps Rosenfels' attempt to cross the plane on that QB sneak (where Keiaho almost knocked the ball away) was merely a fore-shadowing of what was to come.

In any case, the defense redeemed themselves in the end (as did the offense).

I'm still trying to figure out that Defense Holding on a run play call, though... I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a league response this time, however.

shake'n'bake said...

I didn't see the call, but if I understand the rule and how the radio guys explained the play. Brock grabbed onto two blockers to keep them from blocking anyone else.

Awesome redeption job by the defense. It doesn't change the fact that there are obvious problems, but it does give us another week to fix them. Time is on our side now.

I think I feel sorry for Rosenfels... wait a minute... no, I don't!

If we hadn't lost the best player on Earth (and only QB to throw 50 TD's) for the season.....I might have punched the fat girl on the treadmill next to me at Gold's gym on that second fumble.

But the bottom line is....good teams take full advantage of bad teams being bad teams.

Both the Minny and Houston game were gifts.

JC I'd be more concerned about being down a TD to the Niners

No Shake...I'm more concerned with the baseball team I root for that didn't get swept like a bunch of little girls.

What did the fat girl do to you?

shake'n'bake said...

JC- "responds to football statement with baseball"

Shake-"Tommy, is that you?"

Shake: Deflects incredibly painful postseason exit by linking to article that's appeared here a dozen times.

JC: Doesn't have to explain prioritization of October baseball juxtaposed to Week 5 game with Matt Cassell at the helm.

true story, I didn't even have to go off the front page to get to the comment section where I last linked it.

Robert Mathis is superman (at 2:55)

Anonymous said...

Robert Mathis is not human. If he had made that play back a couple decades ago, people watching it would have exploded in amazement. They would have run away screaming. If it happened a couple centuries ago, he would have been burned at the stake.

Two pieces of good news today because of Robert Mathis. 1. The Colts won 2. We know we aren't alone in the universe.

I am starting to get frustrated with Dungy and the rest of this coaching staff for not fixing some of our obvious issues...

Deshawn Zombie said...

That play by Mathis was one of the greatest defensive plays I've ever seen (especially considering the context).

Zac, what do you want the coaching staff to do? The O-line clearly isn't right (anyone know why Ugoh was out?); the D-tackles are a mess, and one of our starting LBs is healthy, but has to miss two more games. What specifically would you want them to do. This team clearly has suffered a drop off in talent in certain key spots (O and D line), and is suffering for it. I don't know that coaching can save these guys. It's true, there's still a few guys out that are coming back soon, so maybe if they can weather the storm and be 4-3 going into the Pats game, things will be ok.

Anyway, I'm not going to worry about what's wrong tonight. Tomorrow there will be time to do a full on analysis of what's broke. It would be ungrateful to have witnessed that comeback and spend tonight bitching about why they needed it in the first place.

Did anyone hear Manning mock Kravitz in the postgame press conference?

It was amazing. He basically clowned Bob about the whole "run to run out the clock when trailing on the goal line" thing.

The basic gist was: It's not something you can worry about. Your job is to score and not get greedy.

We are talented enough to not give up 27 points to Rosenfels and the Texans. We are talented enough to not give up 200 yards of rushing every game. Certainly there is SOMETHING they can do to put our guys in position to make some plays. Our game plans seem vanilla and predictable.

I'm not expecting them to be as good as last season. I'm just hoping they can be a little better than so far this year.

Deshawn Zombie said...

Maybe we aren't. Maybe this is just how good these players are. We lost two players that played a big role last year up front on defense. We lost the defensive player of the year and a starting linebacker (at least those guys are coming back). The Colts D is vanilla. When it's going right, they always do the same the thing. Against the Jags we ran blitzed more than most of us had ever seen. MJax was rushing in on every possible play. It was crazy. The did everything possibly, and it worked for awhile.

The offense is still ever so slightly out of sync. The deep balls are there, but either Peyton misses the throw or the WRs drop the ball. There's hope for it, but the D just is what it is.

Demond Sanders said...

Yeah, I'll feel okay about where they are if they handle Baltimore next week. Then comes the crucial stretch of four games, but Hagler and Sanders should be back for most of those games.

Bottom line is keep winning any way possible. Things will get better. The really good news is I don't have much respect for anyone in the AFC.

chipbennett said...

The more I watch the defense closely, the more I realize just how much of a liability Clint Session is.

Hagler can't get off the PUP list soon enough.

Session isn't quite the second coming of the Grape One, but he's clearly not ready to be a starter. Almost every open gap or lack of containment (cutbacks, etc.) end up happening in a spot that was supposed to be covered by #55.

We are clearly feeling the impact of losing both Pitcock and Big Ed; but that said, I think our D-Line is actually playing just fine (for the most part).

On the other side of the ball, consider that our offense put up 24 points with half of the starting O-Line not playing today.

And, had Ugoh been in there instead of Charlie Johnson, does anyone really think that Addai would have been left to pass block Mario Williams (on the one, particularly memorable Manning sack)?

Deshawn Zombie said...

A good chunk of my pessimism earlier came from the fact that I thought that Ugoh had played. I missed the pregame, and they never mentioned the issue again. He was active but CJ started. I wouldn't have been quite so down on the O if I had realized that earlier. CJ can run block, but wow does he cause problems in pass protection.

Deshawn Zombie said...

I can't wait to actually watch this game when they replay it on the NFL Network later this week.

chipbennett said...

We lucked out; this week is the Rams' bye week, so we actually got to watch the Colts.

(The Saint Louis football market absolutely SUCKS. We get ONE early game, and ONE late game. Every other market in the country gets both CBS games, and the FOX game. Why do we get screwed here?)

Anyway, having watched the game, I'm not ready to hit Phil B's Panic Button yet. (I'm just having nightmarish flashbacks to stretches of the 2006 season.)

By the way, speaking of injured players, has anyone heard anything on Freeney? He looked to have injured his ankle or something, and they held him out on the last (two?) defensive series.

Demond Sanders said...

Wow, Jacksonville isn't any good. Of course we already knew that. I think the CB Mathis is their whole team.

The Steelers should be blowing them out.

shake'n'bake said...

The Steelers are Jags like in their complete lack of composure and control. So many dumb fouls.

And we're going to take this win and we're going to Nashville, to Jacksonville, to Green Bay, to Pittsburgh, to Cleveland, to San Diego, and then WE'RE GOING TO TAMPA FOR THE SUPER BOWL!!! YAARRRRRRGH!
