I can't tell you how happy it makes me...

that the only thing standing between Boston and the greatest sports year ever for a city is...

the Patriots wetting the bed in the Super Bowl.

Sorry Tommy. You just weren't good enough.

God help me. It never gets old.

I'm sorry to disagree DZ, but the line has to be drawn somewhere and ANYTHING that gives Simmons a reason to live, breathe, and even worse--write, is a negative for our species, the planet, and the world.

While I admit it will be tough for anyone to gush about all the wonderfulness of Boston sportsdom without highlighting the glaring omission we all know and love, gushing will be had and it will be vile. So glad I live on the west coast these days.

JC, enjoy 2/3 of a perfect year.

Trivia question: I notice that every once in a while baseball and football teams from the same town will win it all, but has any town had three major pro sports teams win it all? (Hockey or hoops, I guess). Not many towns have three teams, so that really limits things. My guess is it never happened.

Not 2/3, 2 and 18/19ths.

Or the decimal equivalent if you will.

See the thing about the Red Sox and Celtics is that for me at least, I never hated them. Most people in Indiana rooted for the Celts for the 80s. I had always been partial toward the Red Sox (Game 6 of 86 is one of my first baseball memories). Really, if it hadn't been for the irrational behavior of Pats fans toward Manning and then Spygate, I'd probably be happy enough the Celts and Sox won. Unfortunately, the collective a-holery of those who dwell in the North East (present company included, JC-no offense) has made even the teams that were once kind of cool, hard to root for. Ultimately, I pulled for the Celts in this series, becuase well...
Kobe Bryant is a rapist.

I can live with Boston a lot better knowing that they came so close to perfection, but Tommy had it in his eyes "that he didn't want any more".

Try plastic sheets next time.

Hey at least when my QB plays like shit I pull his card, not blame it on fumbles, drops, or holding calls.

Six titles since the nightmare of 2000.

When I step back and look at the big picture, I'm content.

And DZ:

You guys suck too. That's why we seem like we have a superiority complex. We do.

Congratulations, Celtics! Way to send Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and company home empty-handed. I take some satisfaction in thinking that Larry Bird is glad about this.

Boston fans, congratulations on seeing this team finish the job rather than choke in the biggest game like Gisele's little boy did.

If you hate Boston fans and haven't read KSK's Tommy from Quinzee posts you are missing out.

JC, the real joke is that if we weren't being ironic in ripping Brady, we wouldn't bother. That game wasn't any more his fault than it was Manning's when the Colts lost. But as long as Boston fans insist on being stupid and giving QBs too much credit and blame, I suppose we have no choice but to continue to laugh at how he blew his chance at true football immortality and exchanged it for the "Aikman Plateau".

What's the Aikman Plateau? 3 Bowls?

What's the Manning boys tally?

Manning manages to skip the "Aikman Tier" by virtue of his huge edge in the stats. Watch how people talk about Favre. He won exactly 1 Super Bowl. To be considered one of the greatest, you either have to have huge numbers or Montana's 4 Super Bowls. Tommy is Troy Aikman. he needed that 4th title to ascend to the level where his stats wouldn't matter anymore 20 years from now. Outside of Boston, they won't barely mention him in another 15 years. Elway won 2 titles and Aikman 3. NO one puts Troy over #7. Titles are a terrible way to judge a QB. Otherwise Bradshaw would be the 2nd best all time, and we all know he's not even close.

This isn't a who is better pissing match. It's "who will be remembered more". Let's be clear about that.

I'll be remembered more than you and it's not even my blog.

I think we're pretty clear DZ.

Yeah, you are kind of like my own personal Urkle.
