Brady gets top spot by virture of "not wanting any more"

Prisco has his NFL Rankings out. He gives Brady the top spot and Manning the 2nd. Whatever. Let's not go down that road again over something as trivial as the opinion of Pete Prisco. His argument that Manning had an off year statistically is patently insane. Manning had his best year on the field last year, and anyone who watched football could see that. Other Colts on the list: The Zombie comes in at 7, Wayne at 22, and Freeney at 25. Also in the 'curious' category is that he lists Mario Williams at 6 (um, Pete he didn't even make the Pro Bowl), the widely overrated Champ Bailey at 5 (Pete, he got beat 1 on 1 with a TE last year), Fred Taylor at 49 (Pete, it took him 10 games to rush for his first 100 yard game last year).

Actually the more I look at this list, the more I marvel at how bad it is. Yikes.

Nobody hates Pete Prisco more than we do.

Read his open.

He leaves Marvin off and doesn't say a word about why. I can see leaving him off and saying it's because he's old and might not be healthy, but he's one season away from moving into second in receptions, receiving yards and receiving TDs. He's the best WR in NFL history not named Jerry Rice. A healthy Marvin Harrison can only be topped by a motivated Randy Moss or a not old Jerry Rice.

First of all, what's the point of ranking all the players? It's stupid. And, secondly, the absence of Marvin invalidates the list even if it were a good idea. He qualifies the Freeney ranking by saying "If he comes back healthy...", why not do the same for Marvin?

It pisses me off how Marvin is being written off this year. I had a fantasy draft already, and I landed him in the 6th round. He only had a bad year last year because he wasn't on the field! How's he supposed to catch TDs from the bench? He will be on the field this year, and he will be his old self.

I say let the press bury Marvin, or even better, ignore him. Better yet, let the other guys single-cover him. I'd prefer to NOT have a target on my back. I think this year will be very good to the Colts in that everyone will be assuming NE or Sd will win it all. Why not--it makes perfect sense: both beat the Colts last year! The Pats were almost perfect! They're due! In SD Rivers finally gets it! LT is in his prime! Merriman is a beast!

I think we'll see a season much like last year in which the spotlights somehow miss a 13-3 reg season, and hopefully we'll click at the righ time to put together a 2006esque postseason. Just in time for Marvin's funeral, Dwight's foot amputation, the Zombie discovering he's short.....

Vinnie Iyer had a reasonable take on our window of opportunity today--it's there and we could be better than ever. A rare case of a sports "journalist" not hyping somethign to the extreme.
