Last season the Colts didn't have a single win that can truly compare to what took place last night against the Saints. They had three blow-out wins during the regular season in 2006. In two of the games, the Texans and Eagles still managed to score more than 20 points. The most comparable win from last year was the 34-16 prime time victory over the Bengals. Even in that convincing victory the run D managed to get steamrolled.
You have to go back to 2005 to find the Colts dominating teams on both sides of the ball. That season had blowouts over a host of teams including annihilations of upper-echelon teams like Baltimore, New England and Pittsburgh. Do yourself a favor and don't go back and look at that schedule. It would only depress you. That year was amazing. (How sweet was the shootout 45-37 win over Cincy?) Are we headed for another stretch like that?
As my dad noted last night: I still want to see them against the likes of Jacksonville. Even playing the Titans on the road next week will be a good measuring stick. If the team comes back to the dome in three weeks undefeated then we can start to get excited about this season's potential. Who am I kidding? We couldn't be more excited already.
By the way, check out Peyton's latest dramatic effort over at Priceless.com where you can get a personalized pep talk from Mr. Manning. There are about 10 different talks Peyton can give you. The writing ain't great, but there are a couple classics.
