Harrison questioned in shooting

Bet you never thought you would read that headline.

DZ Comments: I don't know what's more shocking, the headline or the fact that Marvin owns a bar. I'm disturbed by this.

Obviously we are waiting until further details are reported to truly weigh in on this. My gut says Marvin wouldn't risk tarnishing his legendary career unless he felt he or his friends were in danger.

It's all good.

Sometimes you just gotta let off a clip.

It's healthy. Don't read too much into it.

He shot somebody!

I want to know what "a young girl" was doing with this dude who got shot outside a bar at 5 AM. There is a lot weird about this story.

Things that jumped out from ESPN's outside the lines piece on it.

Marvin's gun involved in the shooting is a custom made Belgian .50 caliber handgun.

Marvin has 25 guns registered to him.

I thought it said it was 5 PM in the afternoon, not 5 AM. Not sure on this though

25 guns? I have a bad feeling about this.

Oh stop it. Half of my family owns 20+ a piece. Gun owners do not equal crazies. If I had Marvin Harrison money, I would probably have a similarly sized collection.

Need I point out this is a .50 PISTOL? You know, the same caliber as a Desert Eagle. Don't know who else is a vet here, or has had a chance to shoot a desert eagle, but at 185 lbs? No way he can get more than one shot off without being firmly planted on his behind.

Here's what I think happened. Rude Patron walk in, Marvin tells him to leave. Rude Patron says no. Marvin goes to escort him out, Rude Patron throws a punch. Marvin gives him a good North Philly beat down, and Marvin and his bouncer/buddy throw him out and makes sure he gets in his car. Rude Patron gets in car and reaches for gun, brandishing it in front of Marvin. Bouncer/buddy pulls gun he's been "borrowing" from Marvin and shoots to defend them. Guy gets grazed, windshield gets hit, and Rude Patron gets the hell out of dodge. Marvin, freaked the hell out, tells his buddy to go down to his gas station and put it in a bucket.

Marvin owns a bar?!

What's making me twitchy is everything else suddenly being discussed on ProFootballTalk - Marvin allegedly popping a ball boy at the Pro Bowl, confronting some young autograph seekers and getting one of them in a headlock, etc.

We're obsessive fans here - how is this the first time we're hearing this stuff?

Demond Sanders said...

No one said gun owners are crazy. I'm not going all Obama on you.

Still, the fact that Marvin might own as many as 25 guns does give me a bad feeling about the situation as a whole -- that's all.

(I'm a big supporter of the bill of rights. Our family owned guns both large and small growing up. Although our family WAS crazy so I'm not sure I'm helping. . .)

Deshawn Zombie said...

Why didn't we hear about it? We did, but it went away fast. That's because the probowl story was crap. The whole thing was made up and the case was dismissed. It was some punk kids trying to score a buck.

Gregg Easterbrook must be pissed!

The ever-crooked Polian will pay a bartender to eat the charge.

Don't sweat it.

"Rude Patron" did 10 for homicide and reportedly had fought with Marvin before.

I am devastated. How is this going to affect his image? His legacy? Even if he isn't charged, people will remember it. The only thing we can hope is that the story dies, but I doubt it will. This just plain sucks. Marvin said the gun never left his house but it was found at his own car wash... that's pretty damn incriminating. :( I am afraid there is a lot more to Marvin than we knew.

Deshawn Zombie said...

The problem is that in Penn, it's a crime if your gun is used in the shooting. Even if Marvin didn't pull the trigger, there's a good chance he's on the hook for something. Hence the discarded weapon.

Will you friggin sissies STOP!

Please!

You own a bar in North Philly. You have a convicted murderer that openly beefs with you. You're rich and famous, and hence a target.

Sometimes in this world you have to, as we say in Providence, TOOL UP.

If this wasn't in self defense he would have already been arrested and charged.

Chill.

I just think everyone is a little edgy about defending pro-atheletes until all the facts are in. There are a lot of Vick and Clemens supporters who look like asses today because their 'heroes' let them down. Marvin might be ok here, but he might be completely crazy.

I still can't get over the fact that he owns a bar and a carwash. If I lived in Philly, I'd be tipsy all the time and have the cleanest car in town.

I'm sure he owns a barbershop as well.

Probably called "Endzone Fades"

HeatherRadish said...

Yeah, sheltered lives you guys lead. I'm unfamiliar with North Philly, but in North Milwaukee if he hadn't been exercising his 2nd Amendment rights, the headline would read "Harrison killed outside bar." "Pure" and dead is still dead.

That Pennsylvania law is dumb. I understand the intent (don't lend your piece to your psycho friend) but if the gun was taken from him without his knowledge/consent, how's it his fault? Dumb.

wow - never thought I'd see the day when a jc post actually had a calming effect on me. and then you go and drop the classic barbershop name.

nice work

Can I hire Marvin to shoot Mike Bibby?

Take heart JC, the year the Pacers went to the finals they barely beat the Bucks in the first round, needing a miracle Travis Best 3 to win it.

You didn't really think Doc Rivers could match wits with a Hoosier did you? Bob Knight may be a psycho, but he's a freaking genius who knows how to train coaches.

This is rather worrisome because (1) I'd hate if a guy I admired for a long time is actually a creep and (2) when all the shouting dies down, the marvin fans can out-shout the TO and Moss fans with "but our guy's a model citizen." Finally, Colts fans have been able to be pretty sanctimonious for years now because of their squeaky clean image (it comes bundled with Finesse v1.0 and is an add-on with SB Champs v4.1).

In the end, even if he is technically innocent as jc, Katrina, and Heatherradish indicate, it's still a bit of a blot on his all-American boy next door image. Based on the tales his mother tells of his Felix Ungerness, I'd more likely expect him to own a few California Closets franchises, maybe a Maid Brigade operation....

And in the spirit of innocent until proven guilty (or proven really stupid, which is almost as bad like the Texas guy who tried to kite a $36 Billion check today), I'd like to point out that the shooting victim, convicted murderer or not, is not charged with anything in this except bleeding in public. While we can comfort ourselves with thinking "he's really at fault here, I just *know* it", he should get as much benefit of the doubt as MH. I feel so dirty having said that. Time to shower.

And remember, it's always the quiet ones who go postal. Maybe Dungy's next! Maybe he and Marvin barge into the next owners meeting and get all Scarface on the bigwigs. "Lemme introduce you to my little friend!"

Okay, another thought--if Katrina is right, that's some fine shooting, putting a .50 cal round through a man's hand in self defense. The kind you only see in phony westerns where the good guy disarms the baddie. Could have blown his whole arm off.

And Katrina, I'm not sure how many grains of powder are in those cartridges, but if some of my 120 lb female classmates from the Naval Academy could stand at the range and empty a clip of .45s into targets without being knocked down, why can't a 185 lb pro athlete, who may actually use that cannon for target practice, handle the kick?

"Still waters run deep." Unfortunately, not just on pass patterns.

A Belgian fifty cal?

That's gangsta.

And you can tell Marvin is no real criminal because the gun got dumped in a garbage bucket.

Anything that fires shots and someone gets hit has to DISAPPEAR.

Like OJ's knife.

I had the same thought, JC. It's weird that Marvin would allegedly lie about the location of his gun, but hide it so sloppily.

Endzone Fades - excellent.

Anonymous said...

There's no way this guy got hit in the hand with a .50 cal bullet. He'd have no hand left.

I'm reserving judgement until there's more news. However, I sincerely doubt that this will be a big deal.

Anonymous said...

Alright, here's my theory. A 50 cal is too big to be carried around as a sidearm. Also, I heard Marvin beat the crap out of this guy with his fists, so why would he do that if he could just pull his gun and end the fight right there? So I think the gun was kept at the bar just in case something went down, and when the fight broke out, somebody else at the bar, one of Marvin's employees, pulled the gun, fired the shots, and then stupidly stashed it in a bucket at the car wash down the street. Marvin lies about the gun because he doesn't want to be charged with keeping the gun at the bar (if this is even illegal?). If this is the case, Marvin gets charged with a misdemeanor for having his gun used in a crime. Unless a witness can prove that Marvin fired the gun, or even carried it, I think that's all Marvin will be charged with, and it will be forgotten fairly soon.

7 Shots only seems appropriate if the other guy had a gun or the shooter wanted him dead. I thought one article I saw said shots were exchanged, but I'm not sure.

Four days and still no charges. Where's the witness ID'ing Marvin as the shooter?
